Monshiro: Japanese Glass Jewelry and Nature-Inspired Earrings Made from Vintage Materials

Monshiro is a Japanese jewelry brand designed by Satomi Sekiya in Niigata, Japan. Each piece of jewelry begins with vintage materials: glass beads, glass pearls, and silver findings that have sat unused for decades, sourced through partners around the world. It is a practice rooted in genuine scarcity. When the vintage stock for a collection runs out, production ends. What gets made is all there will ever be.

Sekiya draws her forms from the natural world. Botanical shapes like clover, pansy, raspberry, and sweet pea are translated into glass and assembled by hand using traditional Japanese craft techniques. The glass earrings range from long sculptural drops to delicate hoops. Monshiro’s Japanese necklaces carry the same sensibility with glass pearls and stone charms on fine chains. There is something in the weight and translucency of the glass that no other material quite replicates, a softness that sits differently on the body than metal or stone alone.

Monshiro's glass earrings and necklaces are the kind of jewelry that earns its place slowly. The vintage materials have a quality that isn't reproducible, and the botanical forms Sekiya works with are specific enough to feel personal without being precious. Our jewelry collection brings together other makers working at this scale, and our accessories reflect the same thinking about what's worth choosing carefully. Each Monshiro piece is chosen by hand, part of a years-long commitment to seeking out objects with a real story behind them, made by people who mean it.
